Marion Campus Library: A User's Guide for Visitors

Welcome to the Marion Campus Library of Ohio State University and Marion Technical College! The library is open to all who wish to pursue life-long learning through the use of the library resources. No identification or fee is necessary to use most library collections in-house but some special collections have restricted access.

The libraries's primary purpose is to serve the campus students, faculty and staff. We are not a public library; and therefore we grant users privileges to anyone other than our students and faculty as just that; a privilege.

Visitors are expected to comply with all posted and written library policies when using the library materials and facilities. The library reserves the right to prohibit access to the library to any individual who fails to comply with those policies.

General Information

The library is located in the Library/Classroom Building. It is jointly used by the students, faculty, and staff of Ohio State at Marion and Marion Technical College.

The Marion Campus Library Collection includes over 50,000 books, a large reference collection and over 300 subscriptions. Also available are print periodical indexes, microforms, maps, newspapers, and a pamphlet file. In addition, special collections in careers and children's literature as well as the Warren G. Harding/Norman Thomas Research Collection are also available.

The library is an electronic environment; the catalog is an online system called OSCAR (Ohio State Catalog for Automated Retrieval). Many print resources and indexes as well as electronic resources and databases are available for use. Our library is also part of a larger electronic card catalog system, called OhioLINK and many resources are available through that system also. Both OSCAR and OhioLINK catalogs can be searched by title, author, subject, keyword and call number. The catalogs can be accessed remotely via the World Wide Web:

OSCAR     http://library.ohio-state.edu

OhioLINK  http://www.ohiolink.edu

Remote access for the electronic databases and full-text resources is not available for courtesy borrowers.

The library regularly supports events and activities on campus as well as special community programs. Please call Ohio State at Marion at 740-389-OSUM or Marion Technical College at 740-389-4363 for a listing of campus events.

In addition, the library provides these community services:

  • Exhibits and displays in the library which are open to the public
  • Serves as a site for federal and state tax forms
  • Tours and talks are available for clubs and community groups as well as area schools. Please schedule in advance with the head librarian.
